Team USA opened the 2016 World Cup of Hockey with a stunning loss 3-0 loss to Team Europe.
Team Europe got on the board less than five minutes into the game. Marian Gaborik finished a 2-on-1 to give Team Europe a 1-0 lead.
In the second period, Team Europe scored once again less than five minutes in. Leon Draisaitl forced Patrick Kane into turning over the puck and Team Europe capitalized. Draisaitl finished the 2-on-0 to make it 2-0.
Then later in the second period, Pierre-Edouard Bellemare scored again with 1:28 left in the game to make it 3-0, Team Europe.
Team USA next faces Team Canada on Monday, September 19th.
