UB senior Mason Schreck is a 6'5", 250-pound tight end.
He's equal parts speed and strength.
And, he's a one of 45 players in the country named to the John Mackey Award Preseason watch list.
"Unbelievable talent," praises UB senior quarterback Grant Rohach. "He's big, fast. He's a physical dude. He's got great hands. He's everything you want in a tight end."
"He can really create some matchup problems against some defenses," echoes UB head coach Lance Leipold.
"I go into every game thinking I'm the best tight end in the country," declares Schreck. "That's been my work ethic all the way through my life, ever since i wanted to do this."
The Mackey Award goes to the nation's most outstanding tight end, but the award has never gone to a tight end from a non-power conference such as the MAC.
Rohach knows a thing or two about power-conference football, after transferring to UB from Iowa State.
"[Schreck]'s bigger than a lot of those tight ends in the Big 12," says Rohach. "You see a lot more guys flexed out, but the thing about Mason is, he's as fast as those guys. He runs just as well."
Now that former UB tight end Matt Weiser is with the San Diego Chargers, it's time for Schreck to follow in the NFL footsteps.
"We've had a lot of guys in the NFL now, and it's good to have been able to play with them. To be the next guy in line sort of, I'm excited."
Schreck has the size and skill to make the league.
This season, he should have the stats to prove it.
