BUFFALO, N.Y. — Among the experiences in his career, Canisius College head coach Reggie Witherspoon worked with USA Basketball. While he didn't have direct contact with Kobe Bryant he was there when Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski spoke to his team about Bryant.
Witherspoon told 2 On Your Side's Stu Boyar, "These guys were eyes wide open when he started to talk to them about how important it was to them, the pride with which they wore the jersey that said USA. How proud they were to represent their country. And not just Kobe, LeBron James, Dwayne Wade and Carmelo Anthony and on and on. You could tell when he began to talk about Kobe you could tell, those guys they jumped into the words that coach Krzyzewski was speaking. They stopped and after he left the next day they were still talking about Kobe wearing that USA jersey that they then began to feel better about wearing themselves."
Witherspoon and the Griffs are home Friday night against Quinnipiac. It's a 7 p.m. tip off.
