BUFFALO, N.Y. — A baby screech owl had to be rescued after it left its home before it was ready.
On Tuesday, a Cheektowaga resident was having work done on their house, when one of the workers notified them that there was a baby owl on the ground at the end of their driveway. They say the owlet wasn't moving, but was very attentive.
The homeowner and workers called the SPCA, who came out and took the owlet. The baby was brought to the SPCA Wildlife Department. Their team believes the little owl fell from the nest a little too soon.
While the owlet did not appear to be hurt, it's too young to return to its natural habitat, according to the SPCA.
The owlet will be taken to the Messinger Woods Wildlife Care and Education Center for care. That organization is already treating other baby owls around the same age.
When the baby owl is big enough and ready, it will be released back into the wild.
