PARIS, France — After getting an early lead against Germany on Tuesday, Team USA men's volleyball looked to be on their way to victory for the second time this Olympics.
But a disastrous third and fourth set would take things to a fifth and final set.
The U.S. would get the job done and avoid a fallout, defeating No. 11 Germany by a final of three sets to two and improving to 2-0 in the tournament.
West Seneca native Matt Anderson helped Team USA get off to a fast start as he scored three of the first four points to begin the match.
He would go on to score 14 total points, getting 11 from attacking, one from blocking, and two from servicing.
Anderson and the U.S. will face Japan next in a Preliminary Round Pool C matchup. The match is scheduled for Aug. 2 at 3 p.m. EST.
