BUFFALO, N.Y. — Nigeria women's basketball recently became the first African team — men's or women's — to reach the quarterfinals at the Summer Olympics.
The run in Paris didn't last much longer, however, as Nigeria lost 88-74 to the United States in the quarterfinals.
A Buffalo connection on that Nigeria team — Adebola Adeyeye, who played four seasons at the University at Buffalo from 2018 to 2022 — did not play in Wednesday's loss. Adeyeye played in 116 games for the Bulls, starting in 83 of them. The 6-foot, 2-inch forward from Brampton, Ontario, averaged 4.8 points and 5.1 rebounds per game.
Adeyeye played in the previous game, when Nigeria beat Canada 79-70 on Sunday to finish pool play. She was on the court for 3 minutes, 24 seconds in that victory and did not attempt a shot.
The semifinals are scheduled for Friday, with the United States vs. Australia at 11:30 a.m. and France vs. Belgium at 3 p.m.
The medal games will be played on Sunday.
