Here's what you need to know about a Hamburg native and Nichols School graduate who is coaching swimmers at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

HAMBURG, N.Y. — There are eight people with connections to Western New York who are taking part in the 2024 Paris Olympics, and one of them is Chris Plumb.

Here's what you need to know about the Buffalo-area Olympic coach.

Birthplace: Hamburg

High school: Nichols School

College: Indiana

Sport: Swimming

Profile: Chris Plumb is an assistant on the Team USA swimming team, and yes, the highly successful coach has Western New York roots. Plumb is a Hamburg native and graduate of Nichols School in North Buffalo.

Three of the swimmers he trains in Carmel, a suburb of Indianapolis, will compete for gold medals in Paris. They are Alex and Aaron Shackel, and Drew Kibler. Alex Shackell will swim in the women's 200-meter butterfly and 4x200-meter freestyle relay. Aaron Shackell will compete in the men's 400-meter freestyle. Drew Kibler will compete in the men's 4x200-meter freestyle relay.

Plumb swam for Indiana University, where he was an All-American performer for the Hoosiers.

"I love the challenge of wearing multiple hats: a business leader in the community, a coach on the pool deck, and a mentor to younger coaches. There is never a dull moment here, and I am always looking for ways to improve the program, my employees, and myself," Plumb said in a Q&A posted to the Carmel Swim Club website back in 2020.

When to watch: Kibler and Aaron Shackell will be first up in Paris, with the 4x200-meter freestyle prelim races on July 30. The first prelim race for Alex Shackell in the 200-meter butterfly is scheduled for July 31.
