West Seneca native Matt Anderson discusses Team USA volleyball's early challenges

West Seneca native Matt Anderson recently spoke in Paris about the challenges Team USA volleyball has faced, and how they've overcame those obstacles.

WEST SENECA, N.Y. — Wednesday is an off day for West Seneca native Matt Anderson and the Team USA volleyball team, after an exhausting day on the court Tuesday at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Anderson and the American men looked dominant early in their second match against Germany. The U.S. dropped the third and fourth sets, but won the decisive fifth.

Anderson recently spoke in Paris about the challenges Team USA volleyball has faced, and how they've overcame those obstacles to win both matches.

"They turned it on the third and fourth set, put a lot more pressure on us passing, and you know, they spiked the ball really well in that third and fourth set," Anderson said.

"And then we flipped the script again in the fifth there, with Max (Holt) going back. It was kind of tight, and Max went back to serve and kind of opened it up, served really well, put a lot of pressure on them, so great teamwork."

Anderson, who routinely posts to Instagram, published another post, this one featuring his biggest fans — his son Jamie and his daughter Juno — holding cutouts of their dad's head.

Here in Western New York, friends and family are holding watch parties for Team USA games. The next game — a date with Japan — will be at 3 p.m. Eastern time Friday, and the watch party will be at Duff's in Orchard Park.

If you cannot make it to the party, you can watch Anderson and Team USA live at home on Friday afternoon on the USA Network or Peacock.
