Anderson, U.S. Volleyball earn first win of Paris Olympics

The West Seneca native helped lead U.S.A. volleyball over Argentina on Saturday.

PARIS, France β€” The United States men's volleyball team defeated Argentina in its pool c preliminary round opener on Saturday.

West Seneca native Matt Anderson helped lead Team U.S.A. to victory with a three-sets-to-none win, beating Argentina by a final of 75 to 55. 

Anderson had seven points in the opening match for the United States, six from attacking and one from blocking. He averaged a total of 0.33 points per set and had eight receptions.

In a post on his Instagram page on Saturday, Anderson wrote "Happy with the win against Argentina and proud of our fight through to the end. Time to recover and reset our focus to Germany. Thank you for everyone supporting πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ."

Germany will face the U.S. next Tuesday, July 30, at 7 a.m. EST.

Matt's sister Jennifer Anderson told 2 On Your Side that family and friends will hold a local watch party for the second of three pool play matches at Fattey Beer in Orchard Park on Tuesday.

The third and final pool play watch party will be held on Friday, August 2 at Duff's in Orchard Park. The time for that match is still TBD.

The top two ranked teams in each pool and the two best third-ranked teams qualify for the Quarterfinals.
