Who did the Sabres pick in the 2024 NHL Draft?

A roundup of the Buffalo Sabres selections in the 2024 NHL Draft.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Buffalo Sabres made 8 total selections at the 2024 NHL Draft, with one in the first round and seven on Day 2. Here is a recap of the Sabres 2024 draft selections. 

Round 1, 14th overall: C Konsta Helenius

18-year-old Finnish forward. Helenius was ranked No. 3 in NHL Central Scouting's final pre-draft rankings of international skaters. The 5-foot-11, 189-pound forward tallied 36 points in 51 games last season for Jukurit in Liiga, the top league in Finland. Helenius led all U18 skaters in Liiga in points over the last two seasons.

"Unbelievable feelings," Helenius said of his emotions after being drafted. "Drafted in front of my family and in Las Vegas, it's so good."

He also posted two points in seven games this year representing his country at the IIHF World Junior Championships, and one assist in four games at the IIHF World Championships.

"As a player, I'm a smart center," Helenius described himself. "I'm a good skater and I have a good shot also."

Round 2, 42nd overall: D Adam Kleber

Kleber is a 6-foot-6, 215-pound defenseman who tallied 26 points in 56 games last year for Lincoln in the USHL. Committed to University of Minnesota-Duluth.

Round 3, 71st overall: F Brodie Ziemer

The 5-11, 200-pound forward from Minnesota comes from the USA National Hockey Team Development Program, scoring 70 points in 61 games for the U-18 National Team and 24 points in 27 games for the USNTDP Juniors in the USHL.

Round 4, 108th overall: D Luke Osburn

6-foot-1, 172-pound defenseman who posted 23 points in 60 games this past season for Youngstown in the USHL. Committed to University of Wisconsin.

Round 4, 123rd overall: D Simon-Pier Brunet

Right-handed defenseman who stands at 6-1, 196 pounds. Compiled 14 points in 52 regular season games last season for Drummondville in the QMJHL, and added 6 points in 19 games during Drummondville's run to the Memorial Cup.

Round 6, 172nd overall: D Patrick Geary

The hometown kid gets drafted by the hometown team. Geary is a Hamburg native who played with the Jr. Sabres before playing two seasons in the USHL with Waterloo. The 6-1, 185 pound skated in 32 games last year as a freshman at Michigan State, totalling 13 points.

Round 7, 204th overall: F Vasily Zelenov

6-0, 181-pound forward from Moscow, Russia. 

Round 7, 219th overall: G Ryerson Leenders

The Sabres end their draft by taking the goalie prospect out of Nanticoke, Ontario.
