BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Buffalo Sabres came into Day 2 of the NHL Draft with two second-round picks.
Just before the second round got started though, the Sabres moved one of those picks in exchange for an NHL forward.
Buffalo announced it acquired forward Beck Malenstyn from the Washington Capitals in exchange for the 43rd overall pick in this year's draft.
The 6'3", 200 pound forward tallied 21 points in 81 games last season. The 26-year-old forward brings value on the penalty kill, leading the Capitals' forwards in time on ice while shorthanded (211:32), ranking 5th in the NHL in that category last season.
Malenstyn also led all Capitals skaters in hits with 241.
He was a fifth round pick by Washington in the 2016 NHL Draft.
