Rob Ray to be inducted into Sabres Hall of Fame

Sabres legends Dominik Hasek and Ryan Miller made the announcement in a video that played during the first period of the Sabres-Panthers game at KeyBank Center.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Rob Ray already has a special place in Buffalo Sabres history.

Now he will have a spot in the team's Hall of Fame.

The team announced Saturday night that Ray will become the 44th member of the Sabres Hall of Fame. The news was shared in a video announcement featuring Dominik Hasek and Ryan Miller that played on the videoboard during the first period of the Sabres game against the Florida Panthers.

During his playing days, Ray become known for his role as an enforcer. After being drafted by Buffalo in the fifth round of the 1988 draft, Ray finished with a Sabres team record of 3,189 penalty minutes after playing in 889 games over 14 seasons with Buffalo.

In the 1998-1999 season, Ray became the first Sabre to win the King Clancy Memorial Trophy, given to the player who best exeplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and who has made a significant humanitarian contribution to the community.

Ray currently serves as the color analyst for Sabres games on MSG.

The Sabres say a date for Ray's induction to the team's hall of fame will be announced in the coming weeks.
