In 1982 the Buffalo Sabres drafted Phil Housley in the sixth round of the NHL entry draft. Today, he was elected into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
Housley spent the past two seasons as an assistant coaching with Nashville.
During his second year with the Sabres, Housley scored 31 goals. He spent eight years with Buffalo and played for eight teams over the course of 23 seasons.
He was selected to seven all star games. Housley was inducted into the US Hockey Hall of Fame in 2004.
Housley is the highest scoring American born defenseman and ranks third all time in scoring among defenseman. Housley played one thousand 495 games and scored 338 goals in his career. He finished with 1,232 points.
The induction ceremony will be held Monday November 9th at the Hall of Fame in Toronto.
