BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Buffalo Sabres are one of five teams courting Detroit Red Wings head coach Mike Babcock.
According to Sportsnet's Elliote Friedman, the Sabres, Sharks, and Maple Leaves have all filed paperwork agreeing to compensate the Red Wings should Babcock leave Detroit.
The St. Louis Blues have also requested permission to speak with Babcock, but have not filed compensation paperwork with the NHL.
The fifth team in the mix for Babcock is his current team, the Detroit Red Wings.
Babcock has ties to Buffalo. Sabres General Manager Tim Murray gave Babcock his first NHL head-coaching job with Anaheim.
Babcock is expected to make a decision this week.
2 On Your Side's Sports Director Adam Benigni spoke with Detroit Free Press Red Wings reporter, Helene St. James on Babcock's future coaching options.
