BUFFALO, N.Y. — For a moment, it appeared as if Kyle Okposo and four other players who once suited up for the Buffalo Sabres would be on the wrong end of a historic Stanley Cup Final collapse.
That didn't happen, though. The Florida Panthers beat the Edmonton Oilers 2-1 in Game 7 to capture the first championship in franchise history, and on Sunday they celebrated that achievement with their fans.
Okposo (with the Sabres from 2016 to 2024), Sam Reinhart (2014-21), Evan Rodrigues (2015-20), Brandon Montour (2018-19, 2019-21), and Dmitry Kulikov (2016-17) were all on Florida's active roster for the Stanley Cup Final.
That list does not include Rasmus Asplund (2019-23), who is also under contract with the team this past season.
The Panthers and their fans packed Fort Lauderdale Beach on a rainy Sunday to celebrate. A torrential downpour struck the area and flood warnings were issued, according to the National Weather Service.
