PHILADELPHIA, PA -- Former Buffalo Sabre, Daniel Briere was honored at the game in Philadelphia Tuesday night.

Briere spent the bulk of his career with the Philadelphia Flyers and the Sabres, so when the two teams met in Philadelphia it was an opportune time to pay tribute to his career.

"Tonight we look back on the career of a man whose pure determination not only got him to the NHL, but it made him a force to reckon with for 18 years. He was the most dangerous when you needed a hero, and he did it with leadership, character and class. Tonight we look back on number 48, Danny Briere."

Briere was joined by his three sons Caelan,Carson and Cameron Briere to drop the ceremonial puck in a pregame ceremony.

Briere played 17 seasons in the National Hockey league for the Phoenix Coyotes, Buffalo Sabres, Philadelphia Flyers, Montreal Canadiens and the Colorado Avalanche. He spent the majority of his career with the Sabres and the Flyers.

He retired from the NHL in August.

Briere played with the Sabres from 2002 to 2007. He helped the team reach the Eastern Conference finals in 2006 and 2007. He was also a co-captain and scored 95 points in the 2006-07 season.

He was a two-time NHL All-Star and the MVP of the All-Star Game in 2007.

In his time with the Flyers Briere shined in 2010 when he set a Flyers record with 30 points (12 goals) in 23 playoff games. Four of his goals were game-winners and he brought the Flyers all the way to Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals.

Briere also helped team Canada to four gold medals.

Throughout his NHL career he played in 973 games, recorded 696 points, 307 goals and 389 assists.
