BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Buffalo Sabres are making some goaltending changes just a little over a month into the regular season.
The Sabres had announced on Tuesday that they are loaning goaltender Devon Levi to the team's AHL affiliate, the Rochester Americans.
Levi signed a three-year deal with the team back in March and has played nine games for the Sabres so far this year, going 3-4-1 and earning a .876 save percentage.
Buffalo now has two goalies on their 23-man roster. Ukko Pekka Luukkonen and Eric Comrie will be controlling the crease for the time being.
In an interview Tuesday Morning, head coach Don Granato said that he "will increase his (Luukkonen's) workload. He's earned more time."
Luukkonen most recently posted a 25-save performance on Monday, November 27 during a game earning a .962 save percentage while allowing one goal against the New York Rangers.
He entered the game Monday night with a .914 save percentage, tied for 10th among NHL goaltenders with at least 10 games played. That number now sits at .938 in his last four appearances, which includes a 31-save performance in Buffalo’s comeback win over Pittsburgh on Friday.
The Americans are currently tied for second in the AHL's North Division with a 10-5-2 record. Rochester's next two games are Friday and Saturday, both on the road against the Belleville Senators.
