BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Sabres have now scored in back-to-back games, after starting the season 0-22 on the power play.
In fact, before Saturday’s breakthrough against the Detroit Red Wings, the Sabres were the only team left in the league that hadn’t scored on the power play yet this season.
That trend has now ended nine games into the season with both goals tapped in by forward Jason Zucker this past week.
This struggle on the power play isn’t necessarily anything new to the Sabres as they finished 29th last season at 16.6%. However, Sabres assistant coach Seth Appert said on Tuesday that it was truly only a matter of time until this unit finally saw some results.
"We've seen that type of progress for probably three weeks," Appert said. "We've seen it in practice a lot, we've seen it in some parts of games, not all. I'm a believer that if you're doing things right, I believe in the process. If you're doing things right in practice and they're doing right things in games, results will come if you don't get discouraged by the current results or the current state you're in."
In other news in downtown Buffalo on Tuesday, Sabres captain and defenseman Rasmus Dahlin was fined $5,000 by the National Hockey League for high-sticking Florida Panthers forward Anton Lundell.
The incident occurred in the third period of Monday night's 5-2 loss to Florida. The $5,000 fine is the maximum amount allowed under the NHL's Collective Bargaining Agreement.
The Sabres will now look to bounce back and close out their four-game homestand against the New York Islanders on Friday night. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 pm.
