BUFFALO, N.Y. — Erik Johnson joined the Sabres for the 2023-24 season hoping to help end the playoff drought.
Buffalo remains nine points out in the race at the trade deadline, and so they have traded the veteran to a contender in the Philadelphia Flyers.
In exchange, the Sabres get a 4th round pick in this year's draft.
Johnson has three goals in 50 games with the Sabres this season. He had been with Colorado for parts of 13 seasons prior, winning a Stanley Cup with the Avalanche. He came into the league with the St. Louis Blues.
Johnson was set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer, and much like deal that sent captain Kyle Okposo to the Florida Panthers earlier in the day, the Sabres are sending Johnson to a contending team. The Flyers have surprised many across the NHL and remain in third place in the Metropolitan Division.
