Sabres defenseman Mattias Samuelsson to have season-ending surgery

The team announced the news on Sunday afternoon as the team was at KeyBank Center for a practice session.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Buffalo Sabres announced on Sunday afternoon that defenseman Mattias Samuelsson will not return for the remainder of the season due to surgery for an upper-body injury.

Samuelsson played in 41 games for the Sabres this season. He scored one goal and added six assists and averaged roughly 20 minutes of ice time per game.

Buffalo's second-round pick in the 2018 draft has sat out a handful of games this season due to injury. It is unclear if those injuries are related to the current one.

Last season Samuelsson played in 55 games for the Sabres, finishing with two goals and eight assists.
