BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Buffalo Sabres travel to Philadelphia tonight as they take on the Flyers in a back-to-back, home and home series, with the return game happening Friday at KeyBank Center.
Buffalo comes into Wednesday’s game after shutting out the Colorado Avalanche 4-0. Goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen earned his first career NHL shutout after stopping 23 shots on Sunday.
He gets the start tonight in Philly after a very strong outing in net against the Avalanche.
Devon Levi is back after returning from a lower-body injury. He backs up UPL tonight as Levi has missed action since October 19.
Another notable roster change for tonight is forward Brandon Biro coming into the lineup. Biro was recalled from the Rochester Americans to replace rookie Zach Benson who is also out week-to-week with a lower body injury. Biro has played in one NHL game back in February of 2022. He’s set to slide in with Tage Thompson and Jordan Greenway for Wednesday’s game.
Philadelphia has lost four of their past five games, despite starting the year 3-1. Sabres coach Don Granato said the team must be aware of this Philadelphia team.
“They’re always ready to play, they’re always ready to compete,” Granato said. “They’re definitely better than they were a year ago and playing much more assertive and, I guess, better as a group, as a team. It will be a challenge for us tonight.”
The Sabres will look to continue their recent success over to tonight’s game, as they are 3-2 in their last five games.
Defenseman Rasmus Dahlin will try to extend his career best point streak to nine games. Forward Jeff Skinner is on a five-game point streak, looking to extend that to six games against the Flyers.
