BUFFALO, N.Y. — When players on teams across the NHL pick their goal songs each year, it gives them a chance to connect with fans.
One of those occasions came Friday night when Jessica Pegula took notice of the music that filled KeyBank Center when Jeff Skinner scored the first goal of the game for Buffalo.
Skinner's goal came a little more than five minutes into a third period, on the power play, sparking a comeback 3-2 victory against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Skinner has scored nine goals this season.
"Can’t believe @JeffSkinner goal song is Breaking Free from high school musical😂 first time hearing it live @BuffaloSabres," Pegula posted on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.
