BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Buffalo Sabres are introducing some new changes at KeyBank Center for the 2024-25 hockey season.
Inside the arena, a new state of the art videoboard and a new roof are officially in use.
In an Instagram post, the team boasted new features on the board. Including a high-definition viewing experience, video panels on the underbelly of the board, and a screen double the size of the previous board.
And outside the arena... a legendary mural is now gone.
"I understand change is inevitable. It's the only constant so we've got new blood coming in. The new kids just started on Wednesday," Sabres fan Vinnie Padalino said.
Others are partial to the history told by the previous mural, depicting various Sabres legends throughout the decades.
And for fans like Kristen Banner, cheering on the Sabres is generational.
"It's very important to keep that history around here. My uncle used to be a timekeeper in the penalty box which is cool, so his picture up there would be fantastic," Bannister said.
For Gerald Edwards, honoring the legends that graced the ice in Buffalo is what's most important.
"Even the old is a part of the new so that history should never be forgotten," Edwards said.
KeyBank Center has not yet released a statement regarding details on a mural replacement.
