Sabres wrap up development camp with annual 3v3 tournament

Team Perreault beat Team Robert 5-0 in the championship game to earn the 3v3 tournament trophy at Sabres development camp.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Buffalo Sabres development camp wrapped up on Thursday morning with roughly 1,200 fans in the LECOM Harborcenter to watch some of the organization's newest prospects take the ice in Buffalo blue and gold.

"It was a fun week," Sabres first-round draft pick Konsta Helenius said. "A lot of good players, so yeah, it was fun to be on the ice and see the players."

"It was pretty early too," third-round draft pick Brodie Ziemer said. "I think we started at 9:15 a.m. and it was already full, so it was great. It makes you feel really welcome."

The Sabres' 14th overall selection in the NHL Draft, Konsta Helenius, scored three goals in three games in the 3v3 tournament. One of his three from the morning was during a shootout where he helped send his team to the championship game.

"I just thought of it as forehand, backhand, but it was a really good situation so I just went forehand again and it was a nice goal," Helenius said.

Helenius and Team Perreault went on to win all three of their games, including the championship matchup against Team Robert to earn the 3v3 tournament trophy.

The Sabres' prospects will now look ahead to the Prospects Challenge which will take place in early September in the LECOM Harborcenter.
