Bills starters feel ready as back-ups finish preseason

The new-look offense is confident that the chemistry is strong as its next game reps won't come until the regular season.

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — It’s Ben DiNucci and Anthony Brown Jr. as the Bills quarterbacks to round out the preseason this weekend.

DiNucci the elder statesman of the pair, signed with the team a week ago.

That is loads of experience with the team compared to Brown, who officially signed this morning.

“We’ll have our guys ready to go and I’ll make sure if it’s one play that they feel confident in, if it’s ten, I’ll make sure I’m giving them the best opportunity to put their best football out there," Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady said Tuesday. "We got a couple days to kind of figure that out.”

They’re up because the Bills starters not playing.

That means just practice time left for Josh Allen and his new wide receivers before the regular season begins.

However, Brady is comfortable with where that group is at right now.

“I haven’t had questions about the receiver room since we got them and put them together," Brady said. "I love how they’re working, how they’re gelling, how they’re playing together. The communication they have with Josh. Obviously just trying to get some guys healthy and figure that stuff out as the season goes. But Josh has confidence in that room and they’re on the same page with each other. Sometimes it might not be the physical element, it’s more of the hey, this is how I see this guy is playing it. I need you in this spot. A lot of it we can take advantage of the mental right now so in a couple weeks they’ll be ready to go and I feel confident in that.”

It is easier to have confidence in the pass catchers when Allen is the one throwing them the ball.

Another element of that ease is rooted in the relationship between Brady and Allen, which while newer as OC and QB, they lean on the roots planted prior.

“I was in the quarterback room with him a year and a half prior as well, so we know each other very well," Allen explained Tuesday. "I’ve got a lot of faith in him and he does in I. We got to continue to keep growing and talking, understanding what we’re trying to accomplish when he calls a certain play. I’m an extension of him when I’m on the field, so I got to keep learning and keep asking as many questions as I can.”

With no more answers on game day coming until the Bill's regular-season opener on Sunday, September 8th against the Cardinals.
