Weather wipes out Steelers fan event at Buffalo RiverWorks

Buffalo RiverWorks announced it would close at 7 p.m. Saturday. It will also be closed all day Sunday.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — If you're a Bills fan in Western New York, finding events to support the team is easy.

If you're a fan of another NFL team — like, say, the Pittsburgh Steelers, who come to Buffalo for an AFC wild-card, game on Sunday afternoon — it can be more difficult. But the good news, at least for Steelers fans, is that the team had scheduled a fan event Saturday night.

With a winter storm approaching and a travel ban starting at 9 p.m. Saturday across Erie County, Buffalo RiverWorks announced it would close at 7 p.m. Saturday. It will also be closed all day Sunday.

Buffalo RiverWorks was scheduled to host a "Steelers Nation Unite Road Warriors Playoffs Party," with NFL playoff games showing on TV screens all night. There would have been meet and greet with Steelers legend and Super Bowl XLIII MVP Santonio Holmes from 7 to 8 p.m., autographed merchandise giveaways, music, and entertainment.
