With NFL's salary cap set, Bills prepare to revamp their roster

According to the website Over The Cap, Buffalo is a league-high $43 million over the threshold when it comes to cap space.

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — Teams across the NFL got a better idea of what needs to be done in the offseason following Friday's announcement of the 2024 salary cap.

While the Buffalo Bills will be helped by bump of $30.6 million, up to $255.4 million per team, there's still some work that needs to be done. According to the website Over The Cap, the Bills are more than $43 million over that threshold when it comes to cap space.

“The unprecedented $30 million increase per club in this year’s salary cap is the result of the full repayment of all amounts advanced by the clubs and deferred by the players during the Covid pandemic as well as an extraordinary increase in media revenue for the 2024 season,” the league said in a statement Friday, when announcing the new numbers.

The NFL Combine starts Feb. 27 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, where all 32 teams will evaluate players who are turning pro.

In the meantime, teams have the ability to designate franchise or transition players until 4 p.m. on March 5. The new league year begins on March 13, and that's when free agents will be able to sign new contracts.

According to Over The Cap, teams with the most cap space include Washington ($79,614,671), Tennessee ($78,655,381), Chicago ($78,335,157), New England ($77,955,006), and Indianapolis ($72,337,573).

When it comes to the least cap space, the Bills (-$43,815,909) lead the way, followed by New Orleans (-$42,109,497), Miami (-$27,919,894), the Los Angeles Chargers (-$25,607,797), and Denver (-$16,811,078).
