BUFFALO, N.Y. — When you look at the NFL stats, most often the most relevant column to click on is scoring.
The most important number once you get there?
Touchdowns.
When you look at the quarterback stats across the league, two names are at the top in terms of touchdown passes:
Dak Prescott: 28.
Josh Allen: 25.
The headlines don't get much bigger as the Buffalo Bills (7-6) prepare to face the Cowboys (10-3) on Sunday at Highmark Stadium.
Prescott leads the NFL's top-scoring offense- at 32.4ppg. It's worth noting they've been even more impressive during the current five-game win streak, putting up 40.2 ppg. Prescott as a league-leading 28 touchdown passes and just six interceptions for the season. He and the offense are thriving under an altered system by head coach Mike McCarthy.
The forecast calls for seasonally warm temperatures, and relatively low winds, with albeit a high chance of rain.
These hard conditions would significantly derail the Dallas offense. It's also worth noting that Buffalo will be without defensive end AJ Epenesa, one of its better pass rushers this season, and veteran safety Micah Hyde.
The Bills defense finally closed out a game this past Sunday at Kansas City, but with prior injuries to top linebacker Matt Milano, top cornerback Tre'Davious White, and top defensive lineman DaQuan Jones, this should be a situation where Dallas can take advantage.
The Bills have shown encouraging progress over the last three games since Sean McDermott decided to make the switch from Ken Dorsey to Joe Brady as offensive coordinator.
Allen would be the first to point out that they needed to be more productive against the Chiefs, putting up just 20 points, but there's no question they're trending in a very positive direction, averaging 28.6 points per game during that stretch, which includes wins over the Jets and Chiefs, and an overtime loss to Philadelphia.
Running back James Cook continues to emerge as a legitimate threat out of the backfield, but they haven't been getting production from top receivers Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis.
Allen has been playing at an MVP level, having thrown for those 25 touchdowns this season, and rushing for ten. He has however continued to turn the ball over. He's thrown 14 interceptions this year and has thrown a pick in each of his last nine games.
Buffalo is currently in 11th place in the AFC standings, but entering Week 15 was one of six teams with a 7-6 record, making what appears to be a very legitimate push toward the playoffs.
Kickoff is 4:25 p.m. Sunday at Highmark Stadium.
