PITTSFORD, N.Y. — Every year is different when it comes to whether or not quarterback Josh Allen and the rest of the starters will play in the preseason games.
However, this year, the decision has already been made.
“The 1's will play," Bills coach Sean McDermott said. "They’ll play roughly a quarter, give or take. It’s really, to me, getting them ramped up and ready to go for the season. It’s an important step. It's hard to simulate the speed of the game and so getting that in the preseason is important. Going through warm-ups and the energy that comes with playing a game in front of fans.”
Not to mention, Josh Allen has an entirely new receiving core to work with this season, which McDermott admitted is one of many reasons for the decision.
"We know there’s a number of new faces on our offense also including his receiving core and so some of that is baked into this," McDermott said. "The biggest thing is individually we’ve got to get ourselves ready to go and go from there.”
The Bills host the Chicago Bears for their first preseason game on Saturday at 1 p.m.
