BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Buffalo Bills announced Thursday morning that longtime play-by-play announcer John Murphy will be setting down his mic and stepping away from his duties.
A Lockport native, Murphy was inducted into the Buffalo Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 2019.
Murphy has been the 'Voice of the Bills' for the last 35-years, starting in as a color analyst in 1984 and the play-by-play announcer starting in 2004.
In a statement posted to the Buffalo Bills website they wrote "John's love and enthusiasm for the Bills and Western New York has been evident for the past 30-plus years in the booth. We will all miss his great calls and passion as the play-by-play announcer. We continue to wish he and his family all the best during his recovery and we hope that he can remain a part of our organization in the future said Bills owner Terry Pegula said in a statement".
The Bills also wrote that "John Murphy will be stepping away from play-by-play duties but leaving the door open to be involved in the game day broadcast."
During an interview on WBEN Murphy had shared that he's ready for the next chapter of his life, and is ready to move on.
