Joe Brady on new role with Bills: I'm here because of Ken Dorsey

The Bills interim offensive coordinator spoke with the media for the first time since the team announced they had released Ken Dorsey on Tuesday.

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — Just two days after the Buffalo Bills made a major coaching change by firing Ken Dorsey, the interim replacement, Joe Brady, talked with the media for the first time since the move was announced.

Without getting into specifics, Brady detailed the conversation he had with coach Sean McDermott, and how he was originally feeling about his new role.

"Obviously not a scenario I was looking forward to this year," Brady said. "Coach (McDermott) was up front about that. ... I was all for it, and here we go."

He even had a lot of praise for the former offensive coordinator, citing how much Dorsey meant to him.

"I'm here because of Ken Dorsey. ... I love that man to death," Brady said. "If results didn't happen, which they clearly didn't, I'm part of the reason for that and to blame. I'm excited about what we have moving forward, the energy that our guys have, and the confidence. It's about us being able to do something with that ... (and) focusing on finding ways to score points and not turn the ball over."

Being the team's former quarterback coach, Brady made sure to emphasize his relationship with Josh Allen, and how his old role would help him continue to build on the relationship between him and the Bills QB.

"I'm passionate about Josh Allen, and I have so much love for him," Brady said. "He's such a competitor, and all I want is for him is to have success. ... Seeing Josh at this level, how detailed he is, how much he cares, it's just a lot of fun."

This will be Brady's second time as an offensive coach at the NFL level. He joined the Bills as the quarterback coach in 2022 after spending two seasons as the Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator, during the 2020-2021 seasons. He also was an offensive assistant in 2017-2018 for the New Orleans Saints.

Fans will see Brady in this new role for the first time on Sunday when the Bills host the New York Jets for a 4:25 p.m. kickoff.
