ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — For the second consecutive season, Bills offensive tackle Dion Dawkins was named as the team's nominee for the 2023 Walter Payton Man of the Year award.
The award is meant to highlight players who give back to the community through community service and different fundraising ventures.
Dawkins learned of his nomination after he was surprised with a commemorative football by his daughter, Dalilah.
“Honored and Heart is full,” Dawkins posted after the nomination was announced. “Thank you Thank You Thank You.”
Nominees will receive a celebratory helmet decal to wear for the rest of the season, as well as $55,000 towards a charity of their choosing. If Dakwins were named the winner, he would be awarded a $250,000 donation and a jersey patch to wear for the rest of his career.
If Dawkins ended up winning the award, he would be the first Buffalo Bill to do so. In the last few seasons, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, Los Angeles Rams tackle Andrew Whitworth, and Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson have taken home the honors.
