Buffalo wings, sauce pulled by Pittsburgh restaurants ahead of playoff game

A Pittsburgh sports talk radio station is also urging listeners to avoid ordering chicken wings until after the game, and instead order boneless chicken.

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — Not too long ago, Dash's Market pulled KC Masterpiece and its barbecue products off the shelves as the Buffalo Bills got ready for a playoff game in Kansas City.

Something similar is happening this week, but in Pittsburgh, where Steelers fans are looking ahead to Sunday's wild card game in Orchard Park against the Bills.

One Pittsburgh restaurant, Bubba's Burghers in Southpointe,  is banning the sale of Buffalo wing sauce until after Sunday's game. That includes both wing sauce and chicken wing dip. Their customers, until then, will have to settle for one of 20-some other sauces sold there.

Bubba's took to social media with a video, showing the restaurant and its signs, "in case you thought we were kidding!"

That's not the only Pittsburgh-area business taking action. According to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review newspaper, Buffalo dipping sauce will not be sold at select McDonald’s locations in the region until after the game.

Then there was a call to action from 93.7 FM, The Fan, a sports-talk radio station in Pittsburgh. A few of their hosts urged listeners to avoid ordering chicken wings until after the game, and instead order boneless chicken.

One of the callers told the hosts, “I’ve been to to Anchor Bar, and I’ve been to a place called Gabriel’s out there, they’re not much different than Pittsburgh wings.”

Later, one of the hosts shared that he’s “always been afraid to go to Anchor Bar or Duff’s to eat wings, because I don’t want to be disappointed.”

Eventually, the show turned to a cross-state rival, Philadelphia. The hosts said they would take eat a cheesesteak from an area eatery, Peppi's, "over any Philadelphia cheesesteaks, anytime.”
