ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — 01/13/24 UPDATE: The Buffalo Bills game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday has been postponed until Monday, January 15, 2024 at 4:30 p.m. The game will still be played at Highmark Stadium.
The Buffalo Bills issued this statement:
Due to public safety concerns in light of the ongoing weather emergency in western New York, Sunday's Steelers-Bills game has been rescheduled to Monday at 4:30 p.m. ET and will be televised by CBS. The decision to move the game to Monday was made in consultation with New York Governor Kathy Hochul in the best interest of public safety and with the Buffalo Bills and the Pittsburgh Steelers, as the region prepares for the storm.
Prior to the postponement, Andy Major, the team's vice president of operations and guest experience, held a news conference via Zoom on Friday to discuss how the team would handle the storm at the stadium.
Major stressed that the Bills are constantly monitoring the forecast each year and are keeping in touch with all parties about updates.
Gov. Kathy Hochul on Friday issued a State of Emergency for Western New York, allowing the state to dedicate resources to help the region.
On Saturday, officials announced a travel ban in Erie County beginning at 9 p.m. on Saturday.
Major, again, stressed the importance of communication.
"We're all collectively talking through all the different scenarios and all the different weather forecasts," Major said. "We're all getting together again throughout the day (Saturday), and we want to make sure that the game is safe for everybody — fans, players, staff, etc.
Major said anyone planning to attend the game should dress warmly and not take the weather lightly, adding that knowing Bills fans, they probably already know what to do.
