BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Buffalo Bills selected Utah safety Cole Bishop with the 60th overall pick in the second round of the NFL draft.
Bishop played 35 games (29 starts) for the Utes, notching 197 tackles, 21.5 tackles for a loss, 7.5 sacks, 3 interceptions, and 14 passes defensed.
At 6 feet, 2 inches and 206 pounds, Bishop ran a 4.45 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine, third-fastest among safeties who ran in Indianapolis.
The Athletic's Dane Brugler wrote this about Bishop:
"Overall, Bishop needs to put more impact plays on tape by setting traps for the quarterback in coverage, but he plays with top-down explosiveness and the football IQ to make plays at all three levels of the field. He has the NFL starter-caliber talent and is ideally suited for a robber role."
Buffalo Bills tight end Dalton Kincaid expressed his excitement to reunite with his former teammate on social media.
Bishop talked about his relationship with Kincaid and how he has been able to lean on him during the draft process.
"Me and him talk a good bit," Bishop said. "I think he texted me but you know it's kind of a little hectic right after you get the call. I'm excited to talk to him over the next couple of days."
Bishop discussed how playing with Kincaid during his early college years has affected his level of play to end up in the position he is in today.
"Being able to cover Dalton Kincaid every day my first two years definitely helps you get better at covering tight ends because he's one of the better route runners out there," Bishop said. "He was super helpful in my growth and I will hopefully be able to add a lot of value."
Bishop also talked about why he feels that he can be a good fit on this Buffalo Bills team.
"They let their safeties do a lot," Bishop said. "My versatility is something that kind of separates me, so being able to go to a team that you're able to be versatile is huge."
