ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — The 2024 NFL trade deadline has come and gone in Orchard Park without any big time trades from Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane and his staff.
However, the Bills did open up two roster spots with a pair of transactions on Tuesday.
The team announced the release of veteran safety Mike Edwards prior to the 4 p.m. deadline. Edwards signed with the Bills this past offseason on a one-year deal but only played 20 snaps and made one tackle in his three game appearances this season.
The Bills also placed defensive lineman Dawuane Smoot on injured reserve on Tuesday as he is set to undergo wrist surgery later in the week. This news is now coming just over a week after the team's rookie defensive tackle DeWayne Carter was also placed on injured reserve with a wrist injury that required surgery.
Therefore, with these two separate transactions Tuesday, the Bills now have two open roster spots and four different players who will be eligible to return from injured reserve this season.
