Josh Allen is in a 'good spot' with his receivers at training camp

The Bills are only one week into training camp, and Josh Allen is already feeling confident about the chemistry he has built with his new targets.

PITTSFORD, N.Y. — The Buffalo Bills are only one week into training camp and Josh Allen is already feeling confident about the chemistry he’s built with his new targets.

“We're in a good spot with the receivers right now in terms of the trust and the feel that we've got for the guys in that room,” Allen said.

That trust is even more critical in a season where Khalil Shakir is the only Bills receiver who has ever caught a pass in a game from Allen.

“The energy, the work effort, or the work ethic and the effort that they bring each and every day, it's been easy to get on the same page with these guys," Allen said. "We've got to keep talking through a lot of different things, but we've got most of our offense in right now, and guys are learning on the fly, and they're making plays out there, so I can't complain.”

Allen is getting on the same page with this new offense that lives by the motto "everybody eats." Allen compared it to the sport of basketball and said that it's essentially like "wanting to make the extra pass," or even "trying to get your teammate open."

"I think that we've got other shooting guards, we've got power forwards, and big centers that we can lob the ball up to now," Allen said. "So, we do have different types of bodies and different types of skill sets that again, as the quarterback, makes you feel good.

"Right now, I don't think our defense can pinpoint on a single guy who were starting with. Every concept could be starting with Khalil, it could be starting with Mack, Keon, Dalton, Dawson, we could be starting with the running backs.”

Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady’s ability to utilize the different skill sets of this unique offense has now set the tone for the entire group of pass catchers.

“We got a lot of guys whether it's in that receiver room, that tight end room, or running back room that are finding ways to do the little things the right way," Allen said.

"I think they are catching the eye of the coaching staff, and our scouts, and our GM, and the quarterbacks in the room because when you have guys that want to work hard and do things the right way, you just feel that much more comfortable with them on the field, knowing they're gonna be in the right spot at the right time.”

Allen added: "At the end of the day, our only goal is to win football games — if it's by one, if it's by a 100 — so whatever it's going to take for us to get the job done, we're going to do.”

The Bills are back at Highmark Stadium for the first time this season on Friday night at 5:30 p.m. for the team's annual Return of the Blue and Red practice.
