Bills offense is ready for first test of the season against Cardinals

The Week 1 matchup will provide a first glimpse at the Bills' 2024 offense that is going by the selfless mantra of "everybody eats."

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — Joe Brady’s first test as the Bills permanent offensive coordinator comes Sunday when the Cardinals come to town.

“We know it’s the first game of the season, there’s always unknown,” Brady said. “I’m sure they’re saying the exact same thing. The game’s going to be a lot about adjustments and we think this is what they’re going to do and how are we going to be able to respond and are we going to be able to be poised when everything is kind of changing. It’s going to be a huge test and a great opportunity for us.”

Fortunately for Brady, he has a quarterback that provides a lot of answers in Josh Allen. The connection between the QB and OC has grown throughout the offseason as they looked to get on the same page entering Week 1.

“(Allen) makes my life a lot easier,” Brady said. “I would do anything for that guy and I feel like the guys in the locker room feel that way… If he can be my voice on the field and when I call a play, he knows exactly why I’m doing what I’m doing, then we’re all on the same page and it makes everybody’s life easier.”

“His communication, his attention to detail and just being intentional about everything he’s doing right now has been elite and it’s a lot of fun allowing him to take control of it all and him just kind of being an extension of what I’m saying and me not having to always say it," Brady said.

The two are certainly on the same page when it comes to the Bills' offensive philosophy this year. With so many new weapons for Allen on offense, you could say Buffalo is looking to spread the wealth in attack this year, or you could go with the phrase the Bills have been cooking up all offseason.

“The term we’ve been using is 'everybody eats', and it’s going to take all 11 guys on the field at any given time to make a play go, so that’s kind of our mindset," Allen said. "It doesn’t really matter who gets the ball or when they get it. We’re going to be happy for whatever we’re doing out there and just trying to make the best play possible.”

It’s a selfless mentality the Bills expect to pay off not just Sunday, but more importantly, over the course of what they hope is a deep run.

“You’re not winning the Super Bowl tomorrow, or whenever that game is,” said Bills tackle Dion Dawkins. “It’s a long season. Just hit the field and get your kinks out, and it’s go time. It’s the real deal now. Wins and losses.”
