Bills trade out of the first round

The Bills made a pair of deals on Thursday night with the Chiefs and Panthers, and traded out of the first round of the NFL draft.

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — The Buffalo Bills had a glaring need at receiver heading into this year's NFL draft.

They wound up not addressing it in the first round.

They aren't going to win a popularity contest with the fanbase at this point, but they seem to have conviction on a clear strategy of making value picks.

The Bills made a pair of trades, the first with the archrival Kansas City Chiefs, to move out of the 28th pick and down to 32, acquiring a third round pick that they lacked in the process.

The Chiefs used the 28th pick on receiver Xavier Worthy or Texas, giving Patrick Mahomes another weapon on offense.

The Bills then dealt down one spot from No. 32, to the first pick of the second round in a separate deal with the Carolina Panthers.

The Panthers wound up drafting receiver Xavier Legette from South Carolina with the final pick of the first round.

The Bills still have a number of options in a deep receiver class, and an attractive defensive option in Iowa DB Cooper DeJean who has the ability to play corner or safety. 4

The Bills also have capital to make additional moves that includes four fifth round picks.
