Allen, Cook combine for 3 touchdown runs as Bills beat Chiefs

Josh Allen ran for a 26-yard touchdown on fourth down late as Buffalo handed the Kansas City Chiefs their first loss of the season.

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — There was a party at Highmark Stadium on Sunday night, and it was a Josh Allen touchdown run that set it off.

A fourth-down touchdown run by the Buffalo Bills quarterback made it a two-score game as Buffalo beat the previously unbeaten Kansas City Chiefs 30-21.

The game kicked off at 4:25 p.m. Sunday, and it didn't take long for the Bills to give fans something to shout about. On just the second play of the game, safety Taylor Rapp intercepted Patrick Mahomes.

Eight plays and 65 yards later, James Cook scored on a 1-yard touchdown run to make it 6-0 Buffalo. The scored stayed that way, though, because Tyler Bass missed the point-after try.

That Bills lead stood at the end of the first quarter, but on the first play of the second quarter, Mahomes hit first-round draft pick Xavier Worthy for a 10-yard touchdown pass. The extra point made it 7-6 Chiefs.

The Bills countered with a nine-play, 70-yard drive that consumed 4 minutes, 45 seconds and ended with another touchdown run by Cook, this one from 6 yards out. Bass hit the extra point this time, making it 13-7 Bills with a little more than 10 minutes to play until halftime.

Back came the Chiefs, who scored on a 2-yard touchdown pass from Mahomes to tight end Noah Gray. That nine-play, 40-yard drive took 4:34 off the clock and gave Kansas City a 14-13 lead with 2:51 left before halftime.

Buffalo countered with a drive that took 12 plays, 62 yards, and the rest of the half. It ended with a 33-yard field goal by Bass, giving the Bills a 16-14 lead at halftime.

After a scoreless third quarter, the Bills expanded their lead to 23-14 with a 12-yard touchdown pass from Josh Allen to Curtis Samuel, capping a 10-play, 83-yard drive that took 6:03.

The Chiefs quickly countered with Gray's second touchdown catch of the game, this one from 1 yard out, and closed within 23-21 with 7:53 to play. That drive took 10 plays, went 70 yards, and took nearly five minutes off the clock.

Allen squashed any comeback hopes for Kansas City, however, with a 26-yard touchdown run on a fourth-and-2 with 2:17 left that brought the fans to their feet.
