ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — Every offseason, people from every NFL fan base start to wonder about schedules.
Who's on the schedule next season? Which games are at home? Which ones are away? What games will be in prime time?
But now there's another annual question fans ponder: Will there be an overseas game on the schedule?
The Buffalo Bills played one of those games last season, in Week 5. They lost 25-20 to the Jacksonville Jaguars, who chose to play games in London during back-to-back weeks, once as the home team and the other as visitors.
So, could the Bills play another international game in 2024? The official answer is no. Here's why.
The NFL's corporate office, back in December, identified four of the five teams that will host international games in 2024.
The Chicago Bears, Minnesota Vikings, and Jacksonville Jaguars will host London games next season, and the Carolina Panthers will play in Munich, Germany. Their opponents for that game — as well as the dates and times — will be revealed this spring.
Buffalo plays only one of those teams, the Jaguars, in 2024, and the Bills are the home team, so that game will remain in Orchard Park.
That left only one possible spot for the Bills to play an international game, and that's in São Paulo, Brazil. The game marks the first time the NFL will play on South American soil.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, in the days ahead of the Super Bowl, said the Philadelphia Eagles would be the host team for the Brazil game, which will be in Week 1. The Bills do not play the Eagles next season.
