Bills' 2nd-half comeback falls short in Houston

Buffalo dug itself a hole with another poor start.

HOUSTON — It was a tale of two halves for the Buffalo Bills.

The first half was completely one-sided, with Houston up two touchdowns at intermission. That was headlined by a Texans 67-yard touchdown pass from C.J. Stroud to Nico Collins.

The Bills finally showed some life in the third quarter, scoring two touchdowns in the third quarter and tying the score late in the fourth during a dramatic comeback.

The Bills lost, though, 23-20 after Houston kicker Ka'imi Fairbairn connected on a 59-yard field goal as time expired.

Down 20-3 early in the third quarter, the Bills slowly started to claw back into the game. First, it was James Cook capping a six-play, 70-yard drive with a 5-yard touchdown run.

Later in the quarter, Josh Allen connected with Keon Coleman on fourth-and 5 from the Houston 49. Coleman broke free and ran up the sideline for the score, making it 20-17.

The next Bills break came when Dawuane Smoot had the strip sack, with Dorian Williams making the recovery. That led to a 33-yard field goal from Tyler Bass, knotting the score at 20 with 3 minutes, 18 seconds to play.

Stroud, Collins, and Texans were rolling early, before Collins left in the second quarter with a hamstring injury. The team initially listed his return as questionable.

Collins entered the game leading the NFL with 489 yards receiving. He went to medical tent, then to the locker room before he was listed as questionable to return.

Collins had a career-high 12 catches for 151 yards and a touchdown in Week 4. He finished the Bills game with two catches for 78 yards.
