ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — Buffalo Bills offensive lineman Mitch Morse remembers the first time he lined up against Linval Joseph.
"I was telling him that my welcome to the NFL moment, when people ask me, (was) back in 2015 was playing him in Minnesota," Morse said.
Now Morse will go from facing Joseph in games, to day in and day out at practice in Orchard Park.
The Bills signed Joseph, a defensive tackle, from free agency Thursday, filling the open roster spot left by Kaiir Elam's move to injured reserve.
Joseph, a 13-year NFL veteran, is the second addition to the Bills' defense this week along with cornerback Rasul Douglas, who was acquired via trade from Green Bay at the trade deadline Tuesday.
Both Joseph and Douglas have won Super Bowls, with the Giants and Eagles respectively, and are hoping to lead Buffalo to football's ultimate prize as well.
"That's the ultimate goal is to come in here and give this team all I can give and hopefully we can make it all the way to the end," Joseph said. "I'm just glad to be a part of it and hopefully I'm that spark that was missing so we can get back there.
"Just knowing what it takes, knowing that I've done it before, that I've got a Super Bowl ring," Douglas said. "I've been in NFC Championships and won, and there's guys here that have won as well, Von Miller and stuff. You just come in and you're ready to help them get over that (hump)."
Both additions come at positions of need for Buffalo due to a season-ending injury to cornerback Tre'Davious White (torn achilles) and another serious injury to defensive tackle DaQuan Jones (torn pec).
Sean McDermott spoke Thursday about what it'll take for Joseph and Douglas to play this week against the Bengals.
"A: are they healthy and have the capacity to play a game," McDermott said. "And they're both in kind of different situations and then beyond that is adapting to the system and the terminology. They're both experienced players. They've probably done systematically everything that we do because they've been to multiple teams, it's just more of the terminology."
Douglas shared the same sentiment that his biggest adjustment is just getting the vocabulary down of his new defense.
Once that's out of the way, he's ready to make an impact for his new team.
"I came here to play and make plays for this organization," Douglas said. "That's really my focus, is do whatever the team needs me to do. Whether it's this week, next week, whatever week it may be, and just play my heart out."
