ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — Bills safety Damar Hamlin was inactive for his highly anticipated return to Cincinnati, but that didn't stop him from having a special pair of cleats to mark the occasion.
Hamlin went into cardiac arrest Jan. 2 during a Monday Night Football game in Cincinnati against the Bengals. He was given CPR and other medical treatment while on the field for nearly 20 minutes before being taken in an ambulance to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.
In the days and weeks and months that followed, the country followed Hamlin's progress as he attempted to return to the team and to the field.
On Saturday night, he surprised 10 people from the University of Cincinnati Medical Center during a dinner, where he revealed a scholarship program for Cincinnati youths. Each of the 10 scholarships will be named after those 10 first-responders, nurses, and doctors who helped save his life.
