Bills' McGovern leaves game with possible head injury; confusion on the field follows

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — There was some confusion on the sidelines after Buffalo Bills center Connor McGovern left, then tried to re-enter, Sunday night's game in Baltimore against the Ravens.

McGovern was pulled roughly six minutes into the game. He followed trainers to a sideline tent to be examined for a possible concussion.

The Bills announced on social media that McGovern, making his fifth career start at center, was cleared to return. But when he attempted to run back onto the field five minutes later, the referees stopped him.

It was a moment that confused some viewers at home, and at M&T Bank Stadium. McGovern soon was allowed back onto the field as Buffalo attempted to erase an early first-half deficit, following an 87-yard touchdown run and a 5-yard touchdown catch by Ravens running back Derrick Henry.

Later in the first half, Bills safety Taylor Rapp left the game to be evaluated for a head injury. It was determined that he had a concussion and that he will not return to the game.
