Babich, Brady set for first training camp as Bills coordinators

Joe Brady and Bobby Babich will each be going through their first training camp as Bills offensive and defensive coordinators when camp gets underway in Pittsford.

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — I don't think you get a complete feel for what a coordinator's bringing until the regular season hits.

Still, eyes should be keenly watching for any hint at training camp from Joe Brady and Bobby Babich.

Brady came to St. John Fisher a year ago as the Bills quarterbacks coach.

Now he's the offensive coordinator, with a lot of new pieces to figure out where and how to put into place. We know Brady's calling plays, so is there anything noticeable with formations, personnel groupings, and the plays themselves that looks different from what we've seen in the past?

A lot of the talk through OTAs and minicamp was that Brady's doing more tweaking than full-scale changing the offense to cater to what he likes to do. Again, until things get real in September, we won't see his full toolbox, but I'd imagine if they're going to be different, we'll see some of that through the preseason.

Babich is in a different spot because it's not yet known if he's calling defensive plays or if Sean McDermott's keeping that job. That certainly tops the list of things to look for, with McDermott saying not to even ask about a decision until mid-camp.

Beyond play-calling, how is Babich impacting the unit?

We've heard plenty about his energy, but what about spreading his teaching across the entire defense? He elevated Micah Hyde, Jordan Poyer, and Matt Milano into All-Pros.

Who beyond those positions could be next with the coaching of Babich?

New voices on both sides of the ball will be starting to show their stuff in Pittsford.
