Damar Hamlin gifts BPS teacher Super Bowl tickets

James Damon, a BPS teacher's heroism celebrated with Super Bowl tickets as a gift from Damar Hamlin.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — A Buffalo Public Schools teacher was recently surprised with tickets to Super Bowl LVIII happening in Las Vegas.

In December, James Damon had been driving on the Scajaquada Expressway when his car got clipped by another driver. Frustrated, Damon followed the vehicle, which he said was driving erratically, onto the 190 SB.

Damon soon realized that the woman driving the car was having a medical emergency and jumped into action immediately.

The driver had hit the center median on the 190 near Niagara Street bringing her car to a halt, giving Damon the opportunity to further help. He got out of his vehicle and discovered she did not have a pulse so he pulled her out and began CPR until officials arrived and took over.

Because of Damon's efforts, the woman survived the incident.

“James Damon embodies what the City of Good Neighbors is all about,” said Dr. Michael Edbauer, president, Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield. “This story of heroism is a shining example of why CPR training is so important, and we are proud to recognize these his life-saving efforts, along with our partners at the Buffalo Bills.”

Damar Hamlin and Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield wanted to take the opportunity to celebrate the Buffalo Public School teacher's heroism by gifting him tickets to Super Bowl LVIII.

“I am so very proud and delighted that Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield, in partnership with the Buffalo Bills, is recognizing the heroic efforts of Mr. James Damon with an all-expense-paid trip to Super Bowl LVIII,” said Buffalo School Superintendent Dr. Tonja M. Williams. “Mr. Damon, who teaches at Emerson School of Hospitality, PS 302, quickly and selflessly acted to save a fellow Western New Yorker's life and about the importance of knowing CPR. Everyone should learn CPR; you never know when you could save a life.
