Bills stunned by Denver, fall short to Broncos after game-winning field goal

Wil Lutz got a re-do and kicked a 36-yard field goal as time expired, as the Denver Broncos won their third straight by rallying for a 24-22 victory over the Bills.

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — We've heard it repeatedly over the last five games. The Bills offense is confident they'll get things figured out.

There have been player-only meetings to that effect.

It continues to take them much longer than should be expected.

Buffalo seemed as if they were going to slip away victorious Monday night, but a flag was called on the Bills in the dying seconds of the game for too many men on the field. This penalty would ultimately give the Broncos a chance to win the game, and they did.

After missing the first attempt before the penalty was called, Broncos kicker Wil Lutz was feeling the pressure as he now had only one more shot to make it right. With ease, he put the ball right down the middle as the clock struck zero, putting Denver over the Bills 24-22.

It just didn't look like Buffalo's game. James Cook fumbled the ball on the first play of the game, which was shortly followed by Josh Allen's 11th interception of the season.

Denver received the ball with 1:55 left in regulation, down by one point.

Quarterback Josh Allen ran it in from six yards out to give Buffalo a 22-21 lead with 1:55 left in the fourth quarter.

Denver had taken a 21-15 lead on a three-yard touchdown pass from Russell Wilson to Javonte Williams with 5:06 left, but they botched the PAT, leaving the door open for Buffalo.

Allen and the Bills took advantage of a Denver fumble in the third quarter that led to a Latavius Murray 3-yard touchdown run to tie the game at 15, but the frustration and sloppy play in the first half followed what's become an all too familiar pattern for this Buffalo offense.

Josh Allen threw two interceptions, the second of which resulted in a field goal that gave Denver a 15-8 halftime lead.

Running back James Cook fumbled after catching a short pass from Josh Allen on the first play of the game.  That resulted in a Denver field goal.  Allen's pass was deflected and intercepted on Buffalo's second drive.

Denver added to the lead in the second quarter on a 4th and 2 at the Buffalo seven-yard line.  Russell Wilson connected with Courtland Sutton who got both feet down as he made the catch in the left corner of the end zone.   The play was initially ruled incomplete but then overturned on review.    Denver missed the PAT and led 9-0 midway through the second quarter.

Allen connected with rookie tight end Dalton Kincaid for a 22-yard touchdown capping an 81-yard drive in the second quarter. The Bills converted the two and cut the lead to 9-8.
