ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — The Bills are back home in Orchard Park this week, coming off one of the biggest wins of the season on the road.
Buffalo picked up a 20-17 victory at Arrowhead where the team limited Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs offense. Now the task this week for Buffalo: do that again.
This time though, the challenge may be a little bit more difficult as they welcome in the current MVP favorite to Highmark Stadium.
Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott has thrown for 3,505 yards (fourth most in NFL) and leads the league in passing touchdowns (28), all while leading a Dallas offense that is averaging 40.2 points per game over its past 5 games.
"They're explosive. I think they're a very talented offense," said Bills head coach Sean McDermott. "Well coached really across all three phases of their team with offense defense and special teams... They're hard to stop, and when you do get them to 3rd down, they're the number 1 team in 3rd down in the NFL, so it's going to take a heck of an effort defensively."
They have plenty of weapons like running back Tony Pollard, wide receiver Brandin Cooks and tight end Jake Ferguson.
However, the star pass catcher has been wide receiver Ceedee Lamb, who is top five in most of the major receiving categories. Lamb is third in receptions (96), third in receiving yards (1,253) and tied for fourth with Bills WR Stefon Diggs in receiving touchdowns (8).
"They move him all over," said Bills cornerback Taron Johnson. "He's a really good route runner. Great at the point of the attack especially when it comes to catching the ball, and then breaking tackles, yards after the catch. Make sure even if he catches the ball, do a good job of tackling and having the safeties have an eye him. Make sure they know where he is at all times."
This Bills defense has showed it can stop a high flying offense just like it did in the Week 4 showdown in Orchard Park, when it held Miami to 20 points the week after the Dolphins posted 70 points against the Broncos.
A similar sort of defensive performance is something that the Bills will look to do yet again to stay in the mix of the AFC playoff picture.
"They have a lot of explosive players and the quarterback does a good job of making the right passes and stuff like that, so just making sure we don't give them explosive plays," Johnson said.
Buffalo is a two-point favorite for this Sunday's showdown against the Cowboys, with kickoff at 4:25 at Highmark Stadium
Injury Report
AJ Epenesa (rib) and Micah Hyde (neck stinger) did not participate in Wednesday's walk through. They are considered week to week according to head coach Sean McDermott.
Von Miller did not participate in the walkthrough either, but that was due to a veteran rest day.
Also of note, the Bills activated the practice window for wide receiver Justin Shorter.
