ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — Buffalo Joe is staying home, at least for now.

A source tells WGRZ Sports Director Jon Scott that Joe Andreessen has made the Bill's initial 53-man roster.

It has been quite an unlikely rise for Andreessen.

The Lancaster High School and University at Buffalo product was just a tryout player during Bills rookie minicamp in early May.

He had impressed enough to earn a contract to continue with the team through OTAs, mandatory minicamps, and training camp.

Things really turned for Andreessen two weeks ago in Pittsburgh when he got the start at middle linebacker along with the rest of the Bill's first-string defense against the Steeler's first-string offense.

Andreessen finished the game with a team-high 12 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss.

He got the start once again this past weekend in the Bills preseason finale against the Panthers, registering 8 tackles.

While the feel-good story continues today, the next 24-48 hours will remain critical to Andreessen remaining on the Bills roster.

There are a lot of roster moves made by teams as loads of players across the NFL are now available either through waivers or free agency, so things remain fluid for players like Andreessen who likely just made the initial roster cut.
